Adult Acne can be caused by an excess of sebum on the skin, which comes from the expansion of oil glands. This excess sebum then gets trapped in hair follicles and clogs up the pores. These clogged pores then allow the growth of bacteria, in particular the growth of propionibacterium acnes which leads to the appearance of acne. The causes of acne are not exactly known and acne can affect different people in different ways.
Acne can be caused by a number of things, but no one knows for certain what causes the skin condition. Hormonal imbalances are one such suggestion, as are factors such as diet, vitamin deficiency and stress levels.
Statistics have shown that there is a link between the level of vitamin A in the body and the reduction of the amount of sebum and keratin being produced. Therefore you need to keep your body’s intake of vitamin A high as well as a well balanced diet. This can be done by consuming the recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables which is five portions a day.
There is also a connection between vitamin A and zinc. This is because zinc is helpful in making vitamin A more effective and because of this is very good for the repair and healing of skin that is damaged by acne.
Also note that there are some over the counter creams and treatments available which can help with the control of your acne. Creams that contain sulphur are known to be very effective. Take advantage of advice available to you from your local chemist or Doctor, seek their advice on what cream could be best suited to your condition. Try to avoid any creams or other treatments that contain bromide and iodide because they can increase the inflammation and cause you more discomfort.
Make sure that you double check with your Doctor prior to trying new treatments and creams, some may not be 100% suited to your particular type of acne and could therefore have unforeseen side effects.
Also you should try to reduce your intake of refined sugars in your foods. Having the right diet can make a big difference to the severity of your acne. You should also avoid any foods containing fried oils or hydrogenated vegetable oils. Despite acne not definitely being caused by these oils, it certainly will not do your overall health any damage to avoid them.
There are a range of herbal treatments for acne which can be very effective for your condition. Another benefit of these treatments is that the chance of suffering from side effects is small when compared to regular medical products. The effects of these may not be as instant as normal medical products but can be very effective over a longer time period. It has been demonstrated that tea tree oils can reduce acne due to the fact that they have antibacterial and antifungal properties. These properties can help the natural treatment of acne.
