Cystic acne is a very severe form of acne that has its roots deep within the skin layers. I would recommend that you should first read the article on the true causes of acne to understand why acne are caused.

You can recognise cystic acne by the hard bumps that occur under the skin, they are filled with a semi-liquid substance. Cystic acne can lead to severe acne marks. Cystic acne are much larger than whiteheads and other common pimples and they can be really painful. Externally it seems that cystic acne are caused by the blocking up of the sebum glands that leads to inflammation of the surrounding tissues and the retention of pus in the area.

Retention keratosis can worsen cystic acne as in this condition skin cells are shed improperly. And this leads to further blocking up of the follicles and if over secretion of the sebum glands is added to it which is caused due to hormonal imbalance the perfect stage is ready for the acne bacteria to grow and flourish. This infection of cystic acne can spread to the surrounding areas thus worsening the inflammation and swelling.

The infectious matter that gets accumulated under the skin in this condition when not discharged properly leads to a very slow healing process of the cystic acne. To prevent scars and to reduce any kind of damage to the skin cystic acne should be treated as quickly as possible. And as conventional treatments only address the surface level symptoms, the holistic approach is the only solution that completely cures the cystic acne condition.

The holistic approach tackles the internal causes of the acne by adopting a multidimensional approach comprising of the right diet, detoxifying etc and eliminating the environment that can lead to the occurrence of acne. It works really fast I not only curing cystic acne but also prevents further cystic acne from occurring.

Causes Of Cystic Acne Unknown, But Are Preventable

April 19, 2008 by Peter Whittington

While there are no definite, causes of cystic acne there are known triggers that prompt an outbreak in most people who are prone to this infliction. Cystic acne is essentially a pimple that forms deep in the skin, typically at the root of a hair and is a painful and tender, causing an eruption on the skin. These eruptions are commonly filled with pus and attempting to squeeze them to get rid of them, usually cause additional pain and can make the situation worse.

Studies have shown that genetics can play a role as one of the causes of cystic acne, if acne runs in the family. As people go through periods of growth, hormonal changes can cause an increase in the outbreaks of cystic acne as well as pregnancy and other influences that cause hormonal changes such as menstrual cycles and birth control bills. These natural body functions have been linked as causes of cystic acne, however other, controllable causes have also been identified.

While stress has not been directly linked as one of the causes of cystic acne any type of emotional upset can spark an acne outbreak or aggravate an existing case.

Excessive Cleaning May Make Acne Worse

Many have been led to believe that keeping their skin clean use harsh cleansers and scrub too hard and too often, which has shown to actually make acne outbreaks worse. By putting the body’s natural defense mechanisms out of synch with natural moisturizing methods, one of the causes of cystic acne shown to be controllable is attempts to keep the skin too clean.

Oil-based cosmetics and other oily and greasy skin products tend to block pores in the skin, leading to the opportunity for acne to form. When it grows beneath the skin and pockets of pus is kept deep under the surface, excess oil is blamed as one of the causes of cystic acne. Usually, acne is formed with the glands through which hair grow to the skin surface becomes blocked by sebum and form as a pimple near the surface. A cyst will form under the skin, with the root of the problem near the root of the hair follicle.

The normal tendency is to want to squeeze any surface blemish to make it disappear faster, however trying this with cystic acne will only make it hurt worse and may push the bacteria deeper under the skin. The best way to deal with this problem is to learn the causes of cystic acne and take whatever steps necessary to prevent them from forming.

One Cystic Acne Treatment Will Not Help Everyone

April 19, 2008 by Peter Whittington

While there are no definite cures or cystic acne treatment that will benefit every person, the best recourse is to learn the causes and eliminate them. By eliminating the causes of cystic acne, the course of any needed treatment will be more direct and more effective. Some over-the-counter products sold for common acne problems will probably have little effect as a cystic acne treatment as they are topical solutions and cystic acne forms deep under the skin, untouched by topical treatments.

A person suffering an outbreak, who has not been using harsh cleansers or topical creams may benefit from beginning cystic acne treatment by washing the area with a light cleaners and applying benzoyl peroxide once or twice a day. They should also wear light clothing to avoid aggravating the spot by rubbing or chafing. If the initial cystic acne treatment fails to produce results, a stronger over-the-counter solution may be tried, but if that fails a trip to the dermatologist may be in order.

In most cases, an outbreak of cystic acne, if kept clean and untouched, will go away one the bacterial infection under the skin has run its course, which can take as long as two weeks. However, attempting to squeeze the pus from this type of acne may make the condition worse, as well as cause more pain to an already uncomfortable situation. Squeezing the bump is not an accepted cystic acne treatment and should be avoided.

Skin Prone To Acne Should Be Well Cared For

While topical treatments may work to some extent, because they are deep in the skin, the results will be limited. Antibiotics are a promising cystic acne treatment and under a doctor’s care, with antibiotic treatment all signs of cystic acne should totally disappear in a few weeks. However, if used too often, the bacteria in the cyst may develop an immunity and stronger measures will need to be undertaken.

Sulphamides are often used as a cystic acne treatment in cases of antibiotic immunity but should be used strictly as directed as they can cause serious side effects. Typically, cystic acne will run its course and disappear on its own, but while it is present it can be unsightly as well as painful to the touch. Squeezing the eruptions will only cause intensified pain and push the bacteria deeper into the skin, making it harder to treat. Additionally, it may also extend the life of the current infected point.

Cystic Acne: The Skin Problem That Deserves Immediate Attention

April 19, 2008 by Peter Whittington

Most children, as they turn into teenagers, form acne on their faces or other parts of their bodies. Acne is often stressful for teens, for appearance is very important to them at this stage in their lives. Most forms of acne will go away over time but there is a form of acne that, if it does form, needs to be treated immediately. This form of acne is called cystic acne, and it’s characterized by large pus filled sores on the face or other parts of the body. These sores are often painful and, if left untreated, can lead to scarring and a pitting of the skin. If your teenager forms cystic acne, it’s best to make an appointment with a dermatologist immediately so that measures can be taken.

Painful Cysts

The large pus filled sacs that mark cystic acne must not be squeezed, as it is often tempting to do so. The infection could spread deeper if the cysts are squeezed, and scarring could result. Even if the cysts are quite large, it’s best to leave them alone until a qualified professional can look at them. It may be a troubling time for your teen if the acne is present, but you have to insist that they don’t touch the cysts until the doctor can examine them.

Prescription Medicines And Their Risks

Your dermatologist will examine your teen’s cystic acne and then will determine what measures need to be taken. Depending on the severity of the acne, your doctor will generally prefer to use prescription strength medicines in order to treat the problem. These prescription strength medicines can get rid of the problem but they need to be handled with care, as many of them affect the kidneys and can lead to health problems later on. Your doctor will usually conduct blood tests on your teen to make sure they are of optimal health to receive such medicines.

You’re Not Alone

Cystic acne is very troublesome for the sufferer, but know that you and your teen aren’t alone. Many people suffer from cystic acne, and many people have permanent scars from it that they must bear for the rest of their lives. It also hurts, it doesn’t look good and it can lead to the sufferer becoming withdrawn and depressed. That’s why if you, or your teen, shows signs of suffering from cystic acne, it’s best to get them checked out by a certified dermatologist right away.
